marital affair. tara merger joins us from washington. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. jill kelly a long time friend of the petraeus family apparently went to the fbi several months ago with her concerns and that led o to a revelation about the affair. and now congressments more information about the fbi's investigate. >> reporter: cbs has learned this girl, jill kelly triggered an investigation leading to the resignation of david petraeus. petraeus resigned friday after word got out he was having an affair with his biographer paula broadwell. his resignation caught many off guard. kelly went to the fbi after allegedly receiving e-mails from broadwell warning her to back off and stay away from my guy. officials say broadwell believed kelly was a romantic rival. broadwell made this comment about petraeus during a publicity tour. >> i think he has been a terrific role model for young people. >> reporter: congressional leaders say they are going to start an inquiry of their own. >> this is something that could have had an effect on national security. i think we should have been told.

for the u.s. central command. petraeus headed the central command from late 2008 to mid 2010. and during that time presented kelley and her husband an award for raising money to pay for junior enlisted men and women to attend military balls. petraeus has told friends that he had no romantic involvement with kelley. and only saw her when she was with her husband. law enforcement officials say they found no evidence to refute that. and described kelley as a victim who received and reported threatening messages. some close to petraeus say he's told them the affair with broadwell began about two months after he took over the central intelligence agency in september 2011. and the affair ended about four months ago. friends of petraeus say he described the trysts with broadwell as infrequent and he say he never pursued her after the affair ended. now law enforcement officials stress to us that kelley is in no trouble at all. in fact no one is going to face any criminal charges here. the fbi investigation in the end found only a personal affair and no concerns about national security. >> glor:

sandy. according to a new york state official be the money will be used to help rebuild bridges, subways, commuter rail lines and homes. thousands of homes and businesses are still without electricity, but crews hope to have power restored to most of them by tomorrow night. >>> two weeks now. that is a long time. >> no kidding. >> do they call this a crisp autumn day? >> i was freezing. whatever they call it. i'm still cold. very cold starts to the morning now as we're seeing some patchy frost showing up in some of the valleys. beginning to thaw out as we head into the noon hour. lots of sunshine over san jose and the temperatures beginning to warm up a little bit outside. 60 degrees in oakland, 60 degrees in san jose. and 57 degrees in san francisco. as you look toward the bay and right toward the golden gate bridge, we've got mostly clear skies. partly cloudy and again it is going to be a chilly night. you may see some of the temperatures down in the 30s and 40s in some of the valleys and maybe patchy frost t looks like we'll warm things up in the next couple of days. weak system slidi
